A few thoughts from Monica

Buying a work of art that you love doesn't have to leave you second-guessing.
Having an idea of where you would like to place a new piece isn’t as necessary as you think. Sometimes we forget that rooms and spaces have a spirit of their own and need to grow and change just like you.
As an artist, I sit with a work for a long time before I finish it, and then I often hang the work in my own home before making it available, so I move art around constantly in my living space. My husband is also a painter, so we treat our space as a living, breathing thing.

We find that even moving a lamp or piece of furniture to accommodate a new piece can completely change the energy of the space and, in turn, change your energy as well.
What I am saying is, buy what speaks to you and what you love, and your heart will know where to put it. That’s not just a sales tactic (I wish it were so easy!)
I have personally witnessed people purchase my work simply because they were drawn to the passion that came through.
I have even had people buy work because they knew it would draw romance into their lives! I LOVE it! It certainly worked that way for me!

If you do have a particular spot you know you would like a new piece to occupy, here are some basic guidelines.
Art should generally occupy 2/3 to 3/4 of available wall space. A general guideline is to place a work of art 57-64 inches from the floor. That said, rules are meant to be broken, especially when it comes to ceiling heights and YOUR height. I am shorter and like my work hung low, and my husband is over 6 feet tall and naturally hangs work higher.
As a general rule, I recommend buying something a bit larger than you think. Art should have presence.
The smaller pieces are for an area in your home that I call “art pockets.” I love nothing more than putting a small work on a bookshelf, in an unexpected corner of a hallway, or in places you exist in daily, to get a little surge of pleasure from encountering something beautiful.
